When people were still using Windows 98, playing movies was quite difficult, due to Windows Media Player's limitations. Media Player Classic was among the first third party players, which provided more features than Windows Media Player, including the ability of loading subtitles. The software is still one of the best alternatives for watching movies. With Media Player Classic - Home Cinema, you can play all common media formats out there. Due to its simple interface and straightforward functions, you can play your videos or music right away, without any effort.

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema is absolutely free and it can be installed swiftly on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, in both 32 and 64-bit versions. The installation procedure involves a few basic settings, which are not difficult, even for inexperienced users.

The video's playback takes up most of Media Player Classic - Home Cinema interface. The lower part of the window is where you will find the playback controls and the progress bar. The interface is fully customizable. The software can display information about the playing media file, statistics, playback status, a playlist and more. It is also possible to select different colors, set a higher or lower transparency level and much more. The customization options can be found in the software's general settings menu.

You can load media files, in various formats, with a standard browsing option or by dragging and dropping your files over the interface. Additionally, you can play DVD movies, from a loaded DVD or a mounted image file. When playing a DVD movie, its chapters will be marked on the progress bar. What's more, you can find a variety of options, in the Navigate menu, which you can use to jump to a specific title or chapter, go to one of the DVD's menus and select a different language and subtitle.

The playing media can be added to a favorites list. When marking a video as a favorite, you can set the program to remember the current position in the video's timeline. Apart from the general settings menu, there are no additional windows to access. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema focuses on playing your media files right away, so everything can be done fast and easy.

Pros

The software supports all common media formats. Its functions are easy to understand, its interface is clean and simple and you may customize it. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema provides numerous options for playing a DVD movie and navigating through its menus, titles or chapters, without any effort.

Cons

If you switch to the interface's compact or minimal mode, it may take some time to figure out how to restore it. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema places everything you need at your disposal, to play media files, in any popular media format.
